    White

Over the past 16 years, since 2004, white has been the front runner.  Are we surprised? Do we think white is boring?  Not a chance.  Classic white is classic for a reason.  If you want a stylish look; white gets you there every time.  Introducing an accent colour is easy.  Create sharp and smart with navy blue or mustard, or soft and relaxing with a dusty pink or sage green.

If we look specifically at the UK over the past 5 years, grey bedroom decor inspiration has become just as popular as white.

Tip: Grey bedroom inspiration is most often searched for in combination with pink and yellow, and rose gold is a rising combination.

    Grey

Across the globe, grey has become a hugely popular colour to decorate with.  In 2016 grey overtook blue, and as grey has climbed, white has taken a shallow slide. The classic monochrome is an interior design technique which uses black and white to create a strong and vibrant look, but with just a few tweaks and using different shades and tones you can create a calming and tranquil scheme perfect for a bedroom.  Bring in soft textiles, subtle lighting and chrome hardware and the setting feels modern and elegant.

Compared to other countries, the UK is one of the only where grey bedroom inspiration has surpassed white. Looking back over the decade, we can see just how popular this colour has become:

    Blue

Over time blue has been, and remains, a very popular colour choice in the bedroom.  Compared to grey, it was only at the beginning of 2016 that grey became the front runner in the race against blue. Here at the Painted Furniture Company, we love to mix a strong, sophisticated steel blue with our white furniture.  Our Millbrook bedroom collection is also available in Steel; a strong statement colour that combines beautifully with white and grey walls and textiles.

In the UK, most people are searching for blue bedroom inspiration in combination with grey.  Across the pond in the US, blue is actually the second most popular colour in the bedroom to white, with grey coming is a very close 3rd.  The same is true in Australia.

    Green

Green has held a consistently strong position over the years and is another classic in the bedroom.  Subtle sage greens combined with grey and whites create a perfect restful and calming ambience.

Tip: Green bedroom inspiration is most often searched for in combination with mint, grey and white.

    Pink

Popular in young girls’ bedrooms, pink is another colour that remains a strong favourite, in a similar fashion to green. Pairing a dusty pink with white and soft grey adds depth and calmness to a bedroom.

In the US, pink is much less popular in the bedroom compared to the UK. Red on the other hand is much more popular and a close second to green.
