How to Choose a Colour Scheme for Your Home
4 Jan 2015, 2:10 PM

The colours inside your home are as personal as it gets. Choosing a colour scheme is incredibly important and also the most daunting part for many when it comes to decorating their homes. At The Painted Furniture Company we understand how having the right colour scheme can really bring a room to life so we have come up with some top tips to bear in mind when choosing a colour scheme for your home.

The colour of your walls is a big decision, one you really want to get right first time. So take your time, collect some paint samples, narrow down your choices, see what each sample looks like in different light and when you're ready pick a winner.

Your bedroom walls are the first thing you see when you open your eyes in the morning and last thing you see when you nod off at night. Therefore choosing the right colour scheme is vitally important as it could affect your mood for the day ahead.
There are lots of theories around, that say red is energising, yellow is optimistic, green is soothing and blue is calming. But the easiest thing to do is pick your favourite colour a colour that makes you smile.

Resisting the urge to fill every room with a different colour can be hard to fight. It's important to have colour continuity throughout the house. So if you decide blue and white are going to be the focal colours of the house, make sure they appear throughout the house. You can then add in some accent colours with hand painted furniture, which allows each room to display slightly different personalities.

Heading into 2015 we are expecting to see vivid colours becoming a more popular choice. Dark Colours such as Teal and Purple are expected to be among the best selling colours for bedrooms. While Neutral colours have been very popular over the last few years we are expecting to see lighter shades of blues, greens and peaches start to feature.
