How to Pick the Perfect Dresser for Your Home
Which Room Is It For?
The first thing you must decide is which room you want the dresser to go in. Dressers can be used in the kitchen, bedroom or living room, all for slightly different purposes.
The most important thing to do is look at the colour scheme of the room as well as the other items of furniture in the room because you will want to find a dresser that matches the style.
Dressers can come in almost any colour imaginable. Our painted dressers at The Painted Furniture Company come in a range of collections with colours including Ivory, Lilly White, Moondust Grey, Portland Blue, Wentworth and more. So choose the colour that best matches your room, or you may want to redecorate your room based on the colour of the dresser.
Choose a Suitable Size
Next, you will want to consider the size of the dresser. Dressers come in a wide range of heights and widths, so look at the space available in your room where you want the dresser to go, and measure it out so you know how large the dresser should be.
Also consider your own height. You don't want to be stooping to reach it, and you don't want to have to stretch to reach the top shelf. Once you have the size you need, you can look for a dresser to fit the size.
Alternatively, some of our collections can be bespoke so you can choose your own size and shape. This gives you the flexibility to choose exactly what you need for your home based on the space available.
You should also check the amount of storage space it provides. What you do need to store inside? Do you have anything in mind, or do you simply want the dresser because it is an attractive item of furniture? This will affect your decision.
Decide on a Finish
It's not only the material you will need to consider, but also the finish. For example, you may want to choose a dresser that has been handcrafted and finished to a high standard, like all of our dressers. This addsoriginality to each and every item, so you know you have something truly unique.
Sometimes a dresser is only well finished on the visible area, while other dressers will be finished to a high quality all over as well as inside the drawers, so make sure you examine your dresser closely.
Decide on a Configuration
This is one of the most important things to decide on. If you know how large your dresser should be, you need to also think about how it is configured. This means taking into account the number of doors it has, which is usually two or three but can be more.
We have a huge range of configurations ready to choose from, and we also provide bespoke options if you cannot find exactly what you are looking for.
As well as the amount of cupboards and drawers and their sizes, you should also decide whether you want cupboard doors made from wood or glass, which will depend on whether you want your items on display or not.
CONSIDER THE HARDWARE
The hardware makes up only a small part of the dresser, but it is essential to the overall look and feel. Hardware comes in many varieties, materials and styles.
Decide on a look, whether that is traditional or modern, and check the hardware to make sure it is of a high quality. Does it feel strong and secure? Open and close the drawers and cupboards to examine the hardware before you buy a dresser.
FIND YOUR PERFECT DRESSER
Choosing a dresser is a big decision, but when you find the perfect one, you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come, maybe even for your whole lifetime. So take the time to look at different models and make a careful decision to find the perfect dresser for your home.
